Eligibility & Application Requirements
Applications for the 2026 scholarship will open in January 2026.
To be considered, applicants must submit the following materials via email:

Personal Statement: Introduce yourself and indicate the scholarship category you’re applying for. Share your contributions or experiences that make you a strong candidate and describe your future educational goals.

Letter of Recommendation: At least one letter from a school or community leader who can speak to your character, contributions, and qualifications.

Academic Transcript: A copy of your most recent transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

This scholarship honors students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to positively impacting their community. Recipients of the Dorothy Jean Booker Merritt Scholarship show dedication through independently performed service projects or active participation in initiatives that encourage interpersonal connection.

Celebrating Bold Leadership and Community Impact
This scholarship honors students who demonstrate a bold, trailblazing spirit and a strong desire to positively impact their community. Recipients will have made meaningful contributions in one or more of the following areas:

This scholarship is awarded to a student who is committed to pursuing a degree in the field of education. The Ruth Merritt Scholarship supports those who aspire to become teachers, administrators, counselors, or other education professionals dedicated to shaping the future through learning and mentorship.

Shelton Merritt Scholarship
Honoring Service and Skilled Trades
This scholarship is awarded to a student committed to pursuing official training in a trade or vocational field—such as firefighting, electrician work, plumbing, HVAC, automotive technology, or other skilled professions. The Shelton Merritt Scholarship honors Shelton Merritt’s dedication to service and supports students who choose hands-on careers that protect and strengthen our communities.
