Annual Scholarships

As part of our dedication to promoting personal and professional development, SMILE Project will award a $500 scholarship to support a student in their pursuit of higher education.  Current and rising students at the college, university, or vocational school level during the Fall of the upcoming academic year are welcome to apply.  ​

In addition to submitting the Interest Form, applicants should submit the following via email to be considered:

​

  • A personal statement to introduce yourself, identify the scholarship category for which you would like to be considered, the contributions you feel qualify you to be the recipient of the selected scholarship, and your plans for furthering your education.  

  • At least one letter of recommendation from a community or school leader that will speak to your qualifications for this scholarship

  • A copy of your most current transcript

Supporting documents should be emailed to info@smileprojectempowers.com no later than April 30, 2024.

We have selected the 2023 recipient and applications for 2024 are now being accepted.

Dorothy Jean Booker Merritt Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship will have demonstrated commitment to impacting their community through independently performed service projects or participation in other initiatives that encourage interpersonal connection.

The recipient of this scholarship will have demonstrated a bold, trailblazing spirit that reflects a desire to positively impact their community in one, or more, of these areas: political action, civic involvement, or religious ministry.

This scholarship will be awarded to a recipient who commits to pursue a degree in the field of education.
